Cirencester Deer Park School

Cirencester Deer Park School

Extra Curricular

At Deer Park we offer more than a visible curriculum. Pupils are encouraged to participate in a wide range of extended and extra curricular activities, many of which are designed to support learning as well as promoting interests and developing abilities in new areas.

Our comprehensive extra curricular list is revised termly to reflect seasonal shifts in activities, particularly in sport and events in our school calendar. Some specialist enrichment opportunities run for a fixed period of time both within and outside the normal curriculum and often involve our pupils working alongside experts. Enrichment standstill days may take place during the year, with pupils having the opportunity to participate in active workshops related to a central theme such as ‘Financial Awareness’ or ‘Lifestyle for Learning’.

Notes from PE:

  • For Table Tennis in the Gym and lunchtime Football on the Astro, pupils must wear a clean change of trainers and their PE tops or can change into full PE kit if they prefer.
  • After school PE clubs finish at 4.30pm. The boys after school Football training will run during January only - once fixtures start w/c 5 February, after school football will stop as PE teachers will be at fixtures.

Trips Abroad

We have a strong tradition of offering innovative trips to foreign countries for pupils. Countries which our pupils have visited over the past five years include France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Iceland and Ghana. Every child in the school will have the opportunity to participate in at least one foreign trip, many of which take place during our annual Enrichment Week which offers all pupils a structured cross-curricular programme for one week during Term 6 each year.

Music Lessons

We currently offer musical tuition on Violin, Viola, Piccolo, Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Cornet, Trombone, Tenor Horn, Baritone, Euphonium, Tuba, Piano, Keyboard, Drum Kit, Singing, Classical Guitar, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, Ukulele. Each year pupils have 30 individual lessons of 30 or 20 minutes duration. Lessons currently cost £18.50 (30 minutes) or £13.50 (20 minutes) per lesson. Pupils come out of their class lesson to attend their music lessons. The timetable is rotated to ensure that it is not the same subject lesson missed every week. If you have any questions, please contact Mr Cook.

In addition to Music Lessons, we offer a range of music activities at lunch time and after school: Steel Band, Classical Guitar Ensemble, Ukulele Group, String Group, Flute Choir, KS3 and KS4 Vocal Groups, KS3 Performance Group and Music Theory. Concerts form an important part of the school calendar including Christmas Concert and Carol Service, Young Musician and Young Singer competitions, School Productions, Summer Showcase and Party in the Park.
