Dates for your diary!
Unfortunately we were unable to hold our Year 5 Open Mornings in June. We are, however, planning our annual Open Mornings and Open Evening for September. These events are a great opportunity to see for yourself the 'buzz' of learning at Cirencester Deer Park School. Please be aware that, depending on the national and local guidance in place at the time, these events may need to be booked in advance. More information to follow in early September. In the meantime, we encourage you to watch our Creating Futures videos on Joining Us.
We recognise that the transition to secondary school is a big step and we are keen to continue to help families make informed choices about their children’s future education.
Year 5 Open Mornings
We normally hold Open Mornings specifically for Year 5 pupils and parents in June/July. Unfortunately we were unable to do so in 2021 but pupils and parents will hopefully have the opportunity to visit us for the Open Mornings and Open Evening in September 2021 (see above).
2020 Virtual Open Evening
In 2020, owing to COVID-19 and the measures in place to minimise risk, we were unable to welcome prospective pupils and their parents to visit Deer Park during the school day for our usual Open Mornings or for our Open Evening. However, we were pleased to welcome prospective pupils and their parents to our Virtual Open Evening on Tuesday 29 September 2020. This was a new experience for us. We are grateful to parents for their feedback and for the questions which we were able to answer. These ranged from our catchment area, provision for pupils with special needs and the stretch and challenge for more able pupils, to our curriculum, enrichment and our school dogs! We encourage you to watch the recording of the event below. Read more...
2020 Out of Hours Tours
In September/October 2020 we were able to offer parents of pupils who were in Year 6, the opportunity to book an ‘out of hours’ tour of the school for themselves and their Year 6 pupil with a senior member of staff (read more...). These proved very popular. We appreciate that seeing the school ‘out of hours’ was a very different experience to our normal open events, which focus on our pupils’ learning and their engagement and feature presentations, opportunities for family learning and hands-on practical activities. However, we shared the essence of life and learning at Deer Park during the tours!
Explore our website
To further inform your planning and decision making, we encourage you to explore our website, and to watch our Creating Futures videos, filmed in 2020, which will help give you an overall picture of life at Deer Park. The Latest News highlights many of our pupils’ experiences and what we have been able to achieve together before, during and after lockdown. We are immensely proud of the commitment of our staff, our rich and diverse provision and our pupils’ achievements.
Talk with others
We also encourage you to talk to people in the local community who are already connected with the school as parents, pupils, members of our local governing body or staff, who can provide first-hand experience of all that Deer Park can offer. We have been inundated with positive feedback and praise for our provision for our pupils during lockdown, from both an educational and pastoral perspective, as well as for the plans we have put in place to ensure their safe return to school.
We recognise that not everyone will want to visit Cirencester Deer Park School in person in the Autumn Term, especially if they are already familiar with the school through older siblings. Therefore, we will ensure you will be able to find information about joining our school on our Admissions page. For example, prospective pupils and their parents will be able to:
- Watch pupils Simeon and Kabila on a ‘guided tour’ of the school recorded during lockdown;
- Explore the school for yourselves remotely using Google ‘Street View.
We encourage parents to keep in contact with us and should you have any questions regarding admissions and the transition to Deer Park, please do not hesitate to contact Allison Boucher, our Admissions’ Secretary. She is able to arrange a personalised tour of the school throughout the year on request and can be contacted by phone on 01285 646558 or by email.
