April 2017

In April 2017 our first team of Year 10 volunteers travelled to Ghana for an international visit like no other.

Travelling to Ghana to experience life in Woe first hand with African Adventures was an opportunity too good to miss. Not only did our pupils gain valuable travel experience, they also engaged positively in teamwork planning and preparing for their trip, acquired new practical and social skills and raised the funds necessary to support their endeavours. Our first trip in April 2017 surpassed our expectations and on our return we were keen to give new volunteer teams the opportunity to contribute to the community we stayed in and continue with our project work in 2018 and 2019. Read more...

Each year a number of international opportunities arise that our pupils may apply to become involved with, such as Model United Nations Alfrink (MUNA) in the Netherlands (February), Key Stage 4 Berlin Study Tour (February), Year 7 Private Peaceful Trip to Belgium (May), Spanish Exchange (June and September), Year 8 Enrichment Week activities (July).

In addition to trips abroad and international visitors to Deer Park, a global dimension is woven throughout our curriculum and is part of our day to day business. We were pleased be reaccredited this year for the British Council’s International School Award to August 2020.  Read more...

In February 2017, 12 pupils attended the annual MUNA meeting at Alfrink College in the Netherlands. The pupils acquitted themselves brilliantly. At least a year younger than most delegates, it was great to see them grow in confidence as they got stuck into the cut and thrust of debate on issues as diverse as world poverty and terrorism on the European mainland. This continues Deer Park's long tradition of engaging with other educational establishments across the world and supporting our pupils in growing into active citizens in the global community.

We are really pleased to be part of a new friendship initiative with Australian city Bathurst. In October, pupils had the opportunity to sign a giant Cirencester and City of Bathurst postcard, which was then to travel from Gloucestershire to New South Wales. We look forward to seeing how this initiative develops.
