Ghana 2019

Fundraising update

Wednesday 5 December 2018

With just 115 days until our Year 10 Ghana 2019 trip, we would like to update you on how busy the Ghana 2019 team have been with their fundraising since the Volunteering Event and World Peace Day in September 2018.

As a team, we have set ourselves an ambitious target of raising £6,000 to cover the cost of the coach, visas, malaria tablets and 10% per pupil involved. The team have been working hard since  April 2017 and have already organised bake sales, supported school events such as the Summer Showcase, held an event linked to volunteering and also organised a World Record Attempt on World Peace Day (the application is currently being processed and we hope to find out in January 2019 whether we were successful).

Since September 2018?

So, what have we been doing since our World Record Attempt on 21 September 2018? Pupils have been involved in a wide range of independent activities but as a group we have:

  • Collected sponsorship money after Head of School Mr Johnson and English Teacher Mr Morgan completed the Stroud Half Marathon in October;
  • Carried out bag packing at Tesco Extra in Cirencester;
  • Run a refreshments stall on the 3 nights of our Talent Show in November;
  • Held a school cake sale.

Festive Fiesta

The biggest event so far has been the Festive Fiesta which took place after school on Monday 3 December 2018. Thanks to the efforts of parents, staff and pupils, the school Atrium was transformed into a mini Christmas Fete with games, stalls, food and drinks, 'Elf Yourself' photo booth, Christmas raffles and festive falafels. It was a fun evening that raised over £500. A big thank you to everyone involved.

Pupils in 7DE were amongst those who attended this fun after school event and they commented: "It was great fun. I won a lollipop by doing the Festive Treasure trail and had my picture taken wearing a random hat in the Elf Yourself photo booth. Candy floss was also a highlight." (Kiera W); "I won a Minion and a Teddy and enjoyed a festive cake." (Lizzy L-S); "There were lots of different stalls, I had good fun." (Arabella E); "I won a sweet from doing the Snowball Practice Game and I got a massive ball of candy floss - yum!" Ethan L; "It was Gucci!" Sam D.

There are still plenty of opportunities to get involved with our team's fundraising. Tickets for  Rudolf's Raffle, the Christmas Hamper Raffle and our Ping Pong Race can be purchased at Reception or by talking to Miss Lillington or Mr Armshaw. Note: Raffle tickets only available to individuals age 18 and over.

In addition to the fundraising carried out in school, we have been in touch with local businesses and we would like to say a massive thank you to St James's Place for their donation of £500 to go towards the cost of the coach travel!

Another huge thanks to Humberts, one of our sponsors of the World Record Attempt, who have kindly offered to donate £500 to the Ghana 2019 fundraising, for any person, who upon mentioning this specific ad, instructs and subsequently sells their property through Humberts.
