Enrichment Week 2023: Massive locally based challenges

Enrichment Week 2023 was an exciting time for the (new) Year 9 and (new) Year 10 pupils on our MASSIVE programme, jam-packed with a variety of activities which allowed the 50 participants to challenge themselves, both physically and mentally.

On Monday we took part in bushcraft activities: pupils had the opportunity to build fires, make a shelter, whittle sticks and there was also time for some hammock-based mindfulness.

On Tuesday pupils experienced a range of activities at Far Peak climbing centre, including bouldering, climbing inside and out, archery and a low ropes course. This challenged pupils, especially those who are scared of heights but we are glad to say that all pupils took this in their stride.

Wednesday provided an opportunity for pupils to design and print their own t-shirts, which many wore later in the week. We also welcomed Steve, a circus entertainer, to school and he helped pupils learn some circus skills, including unicycling.

On Thursday morning pupils participated in orienteering in Cirencester Park. The winning group took 39 minutes (well done them); others took a slightly longer route but completed it nonetheless. In the afternoon pupils were able to engage their brains with initiative skills, working in groups and learning how to communicate, along with some ultimate frisbee and tchoukball.

After a sporting Friday morning (football, basketball, tennis and rounders), the MASSIVE week culminated in an afternoon at Cirencester Outdoor Pool.

Throughout the week, all pupils were an absolute credit to themselves and the school.  Thank you to all the staff who supported this week to make it such a success.
