Primary Challenge 2023

Year 6 Primary Challenge

On Thursday 15 June 2023 we welcomed a small group of Year 6 pupils to Deer Park for the day. These pupils are part of the cohort who will be joining us in September and may come from primary schools where no other children will be moving up to Deer Park or perhaps they have just moved to the area. The day is a great opportunity for them to get to know some friendly faces before all Year 6s join us in July for their two Induction Days.

Our young superheroes were introduced to our 4Rs in the form of super learning powers:

  • Resourcefulness - the ability to find quick and clever ways to overcome difficulties;
  • Reciprocity - the ability to work together and help each other;
  • Resilience - the ability to bounce back after challenges and tough times;
  • Reflectiveness - the ability to look back at a situation and work out how you could improve.

After an initial introductory session led by ICT teacher Mr Young, pupils had the chance to rotate around 3 activities in Drama, PE and Science, involving problem-solving and teamwork. Each group was accompanied by two pupils in (new) Year 10, who were able to empathise with our young visitors.

Hector: "I had a great day, I really enjoyed the Science, PE and Drama lessons but loved playing football with everyone at lunchtime."

Mr Young commented that it had been a really positive day with an excellent atmosphere. All pupils threw themselves into every challenge and had huge smiles on their faces. We can't wait to welcome them back in July for their two Year 6 Induction Days on Thursday 13 and Friday 14 July 2023.
