Ghana 2024 Update

Fundraising thank you

In the Summer of 2024 we are taking three teams of pupils, in (new) Year 10 and (new) Year 11, on a two week volunteering trip to Ghana.

Each individual needs to raise funds to cover the costs of their trip and, in addition, the teams are raising funds, including to cover the cost of their transport to the airport.

During April and May 2023 the group fundraising efforts encompassed an online Auction of Promises and three Quiz Nights. Thank you to everyone who donated items for auction, bid on items and came along to our quizzes. Due to your generosity, the money raised exceeded the teams' expectations.

The Online Auction of Promises proved a major success with items such as an electric car charger, car service packages, restaurant vouchers and beauty treatments to name but a few.  Everyone pulled together and pupils were able to develop valuable communication skills, resulting in the auction raising a staggering sum.

The Ghana 2024 team also organised three Quiz Nights in April and May which took place in the school Main Hall. The evenings enabled pupils to have stalls and a platform for their individual fundraising, whilst also raising money as a group: again, the events exceeded expectations.

Innovative, ambitious, determined: the pupils of Cirencester Deer Park School really are quite outstanding with their creative ideas for fundraising. Some have been selling food items in school (e.g. lollies during the hot weather), some providing a service (e.g. washing cars) and others raising sponsorship money by, for example, walking a barefoot marathon or cycling from Lands' End to John O'Groats!

This Ghana volunteering trip, organised with African Adventures, is an amazing opportunity for our young people to not only develop their own skills, but also, through their volunteering in a deprived area in Ghana, to change the lives of the children there.
