Two Hot Days

Water bottle and suncream

On Thursday 16 and Friday 17 June 2022 temperatures are expected to soar. As stated previously, if temperatures are forecast to exceed 24 degrees (according to the Met Office), as they are forecast this week, we will make an exception and advise pupils they can wear their PE shorts or skorts in place of their school uniform trousers or skirts. Pupils should not decide to do this without our instruction.

Owing to the extremely hot weather forecast for Thursday 16 and Friday 17 June, we ask that parents/carers ensure that their children come to school with suncream and a water bottle.

Please encourage your young people to stay hydrated – they can refill their bottles from the water fountains. Every cell in your body needs water, including those in your brain and your muscles, so to keep mind and body functioning well, you need to avoid becoming even slightly dehydrated. A headache during a heatwave is often a sign of dehydration, so everyone needs to be drinking much more water.

There are plenty of shady spaces around the site for break and lunchtimes.

We confirm pupils will be allowed to wear their PE school uniform shorts/skorts to school this Thursday 16 and Friday 17 June ONLY instead of black trousers/skirts, should they wish to do so. Pupils should not be in any shorts/skirts other than their usual school uniform or PE shorts/skorts. Pupils should continue to wear their school shirts and school shoes as normal.

We will review these arrangements weekly and advise pupils and parents accordingly. At present, the Met Office shows temperatures are forecast to drop back down to 17/18 degrees on Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 June. Pupils are therefore expected to wear their normal school uniform next week.
