University of Oxford Trip

Year 11s discover what life could be like at the University of Oxford

lady margaret hall university of oxfordOn Monday 29 January 2024, we took 50 Year 11 pupils to Oxford for a day at the University of Oxford's Lady Margaret Hall as part of our ongoing Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance programme. Our association with Oxford University was first established in 2013 and since then we have engaged with a number of their projects via their Outreach team.

This latest initiative is designed to promote the application process and delivered a sample History lecture about newspapers to students, whilst also dispelling historical ideas of the ‘perfect pupil profile’. Our Outreach Officer is Marrium Khan, a former Oxford student, and she delivered an informative session to our eager Year 11s. This was a fantastic day, enjoyed by all and funded by The Friends of Deer Park.

‘Our pupils were engaged from the very start and were enthused by the information given to them from the three Oxford Ambassadors. The prospect of being able to access this prestigious college certainly gave many food for thought and realise with ambition comes success’. Mrs Stubbs – very proud Year 11 Year Leader

One of our pupils commented 'The Oxford University trip was truly inspiring – the rich history, academic atmosphere and engaging discussions left a lasting impression on me, fuelling my passion for learning and exploration.'

Pupil comments include: very informative, the grounds are really beautiful too; this trip has made me consider Oxford to be honest – it is such an amazing College; the visit has made me think seriously about my future; it was beneficial to listen to someone who had gone through the process of applying and being on the course they want - the ambassadors were great!.
