Reporting to Parents

How we report to parents 

Following feedback from parents, staff and pupils in the last academic year, together with the introduction of our new Management information System (MIS) 'Bromcom', we are changing the way we report pupil attainment and progress to parents and carers.

Key Stage 3

We are replacing the Key Stage 3 Assessment Stage Criteria. In its place, subjects will report on a pupil’s progress through their curriculum. Each subject has decided on a fixed number of assessment points within Year 7, Year 8 or Year 9, determined by the scope of their curriculum, balanced against each subject's allotted curriculum time. The assessments will be reported in the form of percentages, with each pupil in each subject being given a percentage score as well as the cohort (year group) average.

Key Stage 4

We are not changing the reporting in Key Stage 4. Our assessment framework is based on the GCSE grades 9-1, which enables us to track and monitor pupils’ progress in Year 10 and Year 11. Teachers will continue to provide pupils with a forecast grade (the grade that the teacher thinks the pupil is likely to achieve at the end of Year 11) based on the learning demonstrated in lessons and in assessments.

Real-time reporting

Every pupil will continue to receive an annual written report, which will provide information about a pupil’s progress and attainment, attendance, effort, and behaviour. However, we will no longer be providing two further interim reports. In their place, we will be utilising ‘MyChildatSchool’ from Bromcom (our MIS) and providing real-time reporting. This means that over the course of an academic year, parents and carers will receive assessment updates from each subject through ‘MyChildatSchool’, determined by the curriculum coverage and agreed assessment points.

Next steps

It is hoped that these changes will provide greater clarity to parents and carers about the progress their children are making through each subject's curriculum. Being able to report in real-time, subjects will be able to show the progress made at the crucial points in their curriculum rather than at fixed points in the year which may not be current for that subject.

We are planning to go live with the real-time reporting from January 2024 (which will include all the assessments which have taken place across subjects since September 2023) together with a full calendar of the whole school written reports and planned assessment points for each subject.

With any change of this scope, there is a need for further communication and the sharing of greater detail. In January Mr Clutterbuck, Headteacher, will be providing more information about the new reporting system and updating our website and curriculum documents to reflect the changes. It is an exciting set of changes, particularly around real-time reporting harnessing the mobile application technology which is now available to us all and bringing our reporting system in line with the expectations we have of the technology we all use.
