New Item of Uniform

New unisex ¼ zip top – an additional layer

From Friday 13 November 2020 a new optional item of school uniform will be on sale at D&J Sports (Cricklade Steet, Cirencester) and available for pupils to wear in school from this term onwards.

Following consultation with pupils, members of The Friends of Cirencester Deer Park School and staff, we are introducing an ‘additional layer’ in the form of a ¼ zip top, which it is intended can be worn over our pupils’ existing uniform and will help keep them warm on their way to and from school as well as in our classrooms which we need to keep well ventilated at present owing to COVID-19.

Prior to the first lockdown we were considering introducing a new optional item of school uniform and the pandemic has accelerated the need to do so.

We have considered a range of tops and wanted to find something that was distinctive, contemporary and affordable. Because of the stereotypes associated with hoodies, we dismissed these and opted instead for a smarter ‘varsity-style’ and unisex ¼ zip top.

We have chosen a navy blue and orange ¼ zip top as this is in keeping with the colours in our school logo and other uniform items.

These tops are available to order from D&J Sports in Cirencester. The store is currently doing ‘click and collect’ only owing to the national period of lockdown. However, our  new top can be pre-ordered on their website:

Although listed under both Girls and Boys Uniform, this item is unisex.

Prices

  • Sizes up to Small:  £19.99

The new top is an optional item of uniform intended to provide an additional layer. If your child would like to wear one, we recommend you purchase a size larger than they normally wear so that the ¼ zip top can be worn over their existing school shirt and jumper.

Our models commented: 'The top is fluffy and cosy and sure to keep you warm. It gives you an extra layer to wear in all types of weather,' and 'I think the top was really comfy and warm. The inside is supersoft. I think it will be very useful in the winter.'

At present our new ¼ zip top is not intended to be a replacement for the school jumper. We recognise many pupils chose not to wear their navy blue v-neck school uniform jumpers and,  our uniform code is clear, we do not usually allow coats to be worn in our classrooms.

However, we confirm pupils will be able to wear the ¼ zip top in school and in lessons, unlike other items of outdoor clothing which, as stated on our ‘Uniform Dos and Don’ts’, are not normally acceptable inside the buildings.
