Almost Matilda

Matilda the Musical will be on stage 2-5 March 2022

Two years on from the incredible production of Grease the Musical in March 2020 and our Expressive Arts Faculty is back with another musical - Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical Jr. Who would have thought we would get to this point after the two years we have all experienced.

Auditions for Matilda the Musical began in the summer term and rehearsals began in September. Our cast and band of over 120 pupils have been working incredibly hard; rehearsing three times a week for 6 months, learning songs, dances and music ready to perform in just 3 weeks time.

The 4 shows will be on stage Wednesday 2 to Saturday 5 March 2022.

Tickets went on sale online on Monday 7 February. Saturday night sold out within 45 minutes and Friday sold out later the same evening! 855 tickets were sold on Monday alone and tickets for the Wednesday and Thursday were sold out within 48 hours!

This speedy sale of tickets has added to the air of excitement amongst the cast and around school, and our pupils are more determined than ever to make Matilda an amazing show for everyone.

We have a double cast, The Revolting Cast and The Rebellion Cast:

Pupils will be working incredibly hard in the next few weeks to polish up scenes and rehearse with the band, sound and lighting technicians in the Main Hall. They also have a weekend rehearsal over half term, where we see the show really come together with the cast in full costume.

We are really looking forward to seeing it all on stage and to seeing an audience in our Main Hall once more.

Martha (Year 10): I am so excited for everyone to see the show and all our hard work. The role of Matilda is one of my dream roles and cannot wait to get on the stage now and perform.

Amber (Year 10): It’s been such an exciting journey to see the show finally coming together. The Expressive Arts teachers have all worked so hard to put this production on for everyone.

Isabella (Year 9): I’m really looking forward to everyone seeing how hard we have worked. We have spent months learning lines and choreography and have also had lots of fun along the way.

Caitlin (Year 8): I’m really excited for Matilda. I was over the moon when I was picked to be a Lead Child, especially as this is my first musical at Deer Park. I encouraged my sister to get involved and we’re both really looking forward to performing to our family and friends.
