Expressive Arts Christmas Album

An expressive Christmas at Deer Park

As an alternative to our usual annual Christmas Carol Service at the Parish Church, the Expressive Arts Faculty have been working with pupils from all year groups to create a Christmas 2020 album! Pupils have been composing Christmas songs, recording themselves singing to well-known tunes, as well delivering some festive readings and poems.

‘We didn’t want to cancel all Christmas-related things in Expressive Arts, so instead the team have been working hard behind the scenes to create tracks for pupils to work with and record themselves singing at home. I am really appreciative that Miss Faux and Mr Cook are able to create this album in such a professionally sounding way. It is a great way to keep the festive spirit going at school and show the pupils that despite the challenging year we are having, there is still lots to enjoy and celebrate.’ Mrs Gleed, Head of Expressive Arts

Artwork for the songs was taken from the beautifully hand-painted Christmas cards created by Isabelle in Year 10, which she has been selling to raise money for her part on our Year 10 Ghana 2021 volunteer trip.

‘I am so pleased we are able to hear pupils sing again - even though we have not been able to sing together in school, this is the next best thing. It's been an opportunity for our wonderful singers to shine and for new ones to come out of the woodwork. I want to thank all the pupils involved for the time and effort to learn and record the songs, and also to the band in Year 9 for their efforts earlier in the term. It was lovely to have music in the department again!’ Miss Faux, Teacher of Expressive Arts

The album is now available to listen to on the Expressive Arts YouTube channel. There will also be a link to a Google Drive folder if you want to download the songs, perhaps to add to your Christmas driving playlist! Please email Miss Faux for this link. The Expressive Arts building will be ringing with the sounds of our pupils' creations all week, to get us excited for Christmas!

'I wanted to get involved as I love singing. My favourite song was ‘O Holy Night’, and ‘Mary Did You Know’. I am excited to hear the tracks.’ Caitlin (Year 7)

'I have really enjoyed being a part of the Expressive Arts Christmas album. It was great being able to play with the band "TNT" again. I think it's brilliant that we could still sing together in some shape or form in the current circumstances. I hope the album brings joy to many in what will be a very different Christmas. Everyone involved has done a brilliant job and it's been a privilege to take part.' Tim (Year 9)
