Winning Cooks!

Joint winners at the Gloucestershire final of the Create & Cook Competition

create and cook competitionCongratulations to Deaken B (8LI) and Leon W (8JE) who were joint winners at the Gloucestershire final of the Create & Cook Competition at Gloucestershire College, Cheltenham on Tuesday 14 May 2019.

Organiser of the Create and Cook Competition Min Raisman said "The boys cooked with flair and passion a 2 course menu using local produce. Their dishes were goats cheese and mushroom ravioli with a wild garlic and hazelnut pesto plus a triple chocolate brownie with nuts and berries. Chef judge Andrew Kojima from Koj in Cheltenham, who has been past Masterchef finalist, was really impressed with Leon’s passion for cooking and his skill making pasta. Deaken also cooked with confidence and the boys worked really well as a team."

Leon: "When I was younger I always wanted to take part in a cooking competition, so winning the county final and getting through to the regional final is a dream come true. I really enjoyed creating the dishes for the competition, and getting such positive and helpful feedback from the judges was amazing."

Deaken:  “I have been cooking properly since I was 8 and this is a real passion of mine! It is the best news to get through. We have worked so hard to get this far and now it’s all paid off!”

Miss Dearing, Teacher of Food Preparation and Nutrition: “I am thrilled for the boys getting through to the regional final. It was a tense day at Gloucestershire College with stiff competition from other schools; the boys were the youngest finalists on the day. Their teamwork and passion really came across. They received supportive and constructive feedback from the judges ready for the next round. The boys are working hard in preparation for the final stage of the competition and everyone at Deer Park is behind them. Good Luck!"

Leon and Deaken now go on to the Midcounties Final on Monday 1 July where they will cook against the best young cooks in Oxfordshire. Good luck boys!
