BBC Young Reporters: Readathon

Reading to raise money for charity

Story by our BBC Young Reporters - Trudi and Evie - on Wednesday 6 March 2019.

On Wednesday 6 March 2019, Cirencester Deer Park School completed a Year 7 Readathon for the charity Read for Good. This charity raises money for books and storytellers at children’s hospitals across the country, to provide a chance for patients to escape into the world of literature. Our pupils also benefit from this event and enjoy helping others during the experience.

The Readathon, where pupils collect sponsorship money for reading for a certain amount of time, is one of many Deer Park fundraisers targeted towards children.

We interviewed some of our Year 7 Readathon pupils to get their views on the Readathon, on books and why reading is important.
