Peace Day Song

Writing a song to celebrate World Peace Day

On Friday 21 September 2018, pupils at Cirencester Deer Park School were off timetable to celebrate World Peace Day and attempt to break a world record with pupils from other schools in the Corinium Education Trust.

At the beginning of the day, the whole of Year 8 were challenged to write a Peace Song. Each tutor group was given one lesson and a section of the song to write lyrics for. These were then finalised by Music Teacher Miss Faux and a group of pupils during lunchtime, before the whole year group came together for a performance during the last lesson of the day. The message of World Peace was expressed through lyrics such as 'We are all together now, show the world you care' and 'Release the peace, starting now with me'. 'Release the Peace' soon became the catchy title and chorus for the song.

"On World Peace Day I felt an overwhelming sense of pride as I heard Year 8 sing their unique Peace Song. They sang it with such conviction. I am grateful to Miss Faux for producing a backing track and enabling the pupils to polish off their performance!" Miss Hope, Executive Head of Humanities

Katie commented: "I had a lot of fun helping to create the song for World Peace Day - we came up with 'Release The Peace' as it was short, catchy and summed up what the whole day was about."

Joe said: "This was such a fun, different task to do as a class and a year group. I really enjoyed being able to make up dance moves and be at the front to encourage my peers to join in during the whole year group singing."
