Careers Convention 2018

Pupils and parents from Deer Park and Kingshill are invited to our Careers Convention 2018.

Cirencester Deer Park School and Kingshill School
CAREERS CONVENTION
Tuesday 9 October 2018, 6-8pm
at Cirencester Kingshill School

Cirencester Deer Park School and Cirencester Kingshill School work together to help improve the opportunities available to our pupils. Each Autumn we jointly organise a Careers Convention for all of our pupils in Years 8, 9, 10 and 11. This year the event will be held at Cirencester Kingshill School and we hope that you and your child(ren) will be able to attend this important event.

Around 60 organisations have confirmed their attendance (see list below) and the wealth of information that will be available will apply to Years 8-11.

Year 8
These pupils may think it will be a long time before they need to make choices for their future but it will soon be upon them.  Attending the Convention will help them to start considering their futures.

Year 9
Pupils will soon be considering option choices for Key Stage 4.  This will be an excellent opportunity to look at Universities and Further Education colleges to see what entry requirements are needed, as well as talking to employers to discover the skills and qualifications required in various occupational areas.

Year 10 and Year 11
Key Stage 4 pupils will soon be making choices for post 16 progression, whether it is college, sixth form or training.  There will be people on hand to answer questions.  It will also be worth looking at universities to gain an idea of entry requirements and the vast number of courses available.

All of these young people will have to make decisions over the next few months that will affect their future.  It is vital that they are equipped with as much information as possible. The Careers Convention is a great way to find out more about a wide range of options and we very much look forward to seeing pupils and parents at Kingshill on Tuesday 9 October 2018, 6-8pm.

“This is a very valuable event in the school calendar. Whether you are in Key Stage 3 and just thinking about different options or Key Stag e4 and needing to confirm thoughts about Post 16 provision, the Careers Convention is an ideal place to do your research.  I look forward to seeing you there.” Miss Brace, Assistant Head

Post 16 Information Evening

Deer Park Year 11 parents and pupils are invited to our Post 16 Information Evening on Thursday 27 September 2018, 6.30pm in the Main Hall. The evening is structured to inform about the wide range of pathways available to pupils once they move on from Deer Park next summer. Andrew Lloyd from the Prospects Service, the careers advisory service, will join Miss Brace, Assistant Head, to talk about A Levels, BTECs, Vocational courses and Apprenticeships. When choosing any institution for further study, it is important to research the courses offered and make a preliminary visit. We publish a list of open day/evening events at local sixth forms and colleges, which you can access on our Letters page.

Online Survey

We will shortly be asking all our Year 11 pupils to complete a short online survey on iDeer to see what tailored support we can offer them.
