Year 10 Football

Progress in the County Cup.

The Deer Park Year 10 Football team continued their excellent season on Wednesday 25 April 2018, with a 2-1 victory against St Peter's High School, Gloucester in the quarter-final of the County Cup.

The team started excellently and played at a high intensity and created lots of chances. We nearly scored with our first chance of the game after Adam hit the cross bar with a good strike. The first goal came after Adam was played through and finished well low to the right of the goalkeeper. The team continued to dominate the first half with Aaron and Luke causing havoc down the wing and Luca and Ben playing fine through balls from midfield. The forwards, Ameer and Adam, showed excellent technical skills and shooting ability throughout. Unfortunately, a mix up in defence from a long ball over the top allowed St Peter's to equalise in the first half. Despite conceding a goal, the boys showed excellent determination and commitment.

In the second half, they started again with high intensity and created lots of chances. Aaron's goal demonstrated real quality after he scored from a free kick on the edge of the box. His strike beat the goalkeeper in the bottom right corner. In the final 10 minutes, St Peter's threw everything they had at us. The whole team demonstrated superb defensive resilience with the back four of Dan, Orlando, Leo and Bradley deserving special praise. Reuben in goal also showed great distribution with his kicking and claimed the ball from high crosses and corners on numerous occasions.

Overall this was a fantastic performance and is the furthest any Deer Park team football team has gone in the last 15 years. We now face Chipping Campden in the semi-final of the County Cup on Tuesday 1 May! Good luck boys!

Mr Cumming said “The team deserves great credit for both their attitude and performance. They have real quality all over the pitch and will be a tough opponent for any team they face in the Gloucestershire County at this age group.”

Orlando, Captain: "Everyone played together so well as a team and we deserve to be in the next round."

Dan: "Great result against St Peters. Looking forward to playing in the semi-finals against Chipping Camden."
