A Day in the Life of Year 7

New Year 7 pupils share their experiences of life at Cirencester Deer Park School.

Jack (7TU)

The first few weeks at secondary school have been very fun. And very tiring! I’ve made good friends and feel very clever since starting. Even though secondary has been very daunting, it is not as bad as it seems. The teachers couldn’t have been any more helpful, showing me around and making sure I don’t get lost. The facilities here are quite incredible and I love being able to use them. Since joining Deer Park I feel a lot more grown up and trustworthy!

The lesson I’ve enjoyed the most is History with Mr Ferne. He is fun and has looked after me. In History lessons you even get to experience holding priceless ancient artefacts from Roman times.

Freya (7LI)

I was really excited for my first day of school and, because I was the first person in my family to bring my education to life at Deer Park, I was a little nervous. To start with, some news was sprung upon me that I wasn’t taking the bus into school; the only time I would be doing a trip on the bus was on my way home. This was because my friend had made friends with someone in our neighbourhood and her dad works at Cirencester College, so he could take us to school every morning. The only negative thing was that I didn’t know this friend. It turned out that she is really nice and the journey wasn’t awkward because I was taking it with a complete stranger, everything just fell into place, like a knife and fork as a pair.

So far my year leader has been there for anyone and has set a good example on us Year 7s and how to meet the expectations at Deer Park school. I hope she realises that I really appreciate it. There have been other pupils who have told us where to go if we are lost and need some help. So far I have absolutely loved my time at Deer Park and can’t wait to continue my time here - it is really pleasant and enjoyable, I couldn’t ask for more.

A few weeks ago, before I started Deer Park, I wrote a letter to Mrs Hannis (Year 7 Pastoral Leader) saying how wonderful the Induction Days were and I truly think they helped. All the members of staff are true stars and they help so much, thank you!

I also enjoy the lessons. For example, in English with Mrs Voss instead of reading we were chosen for a character and instead of us taking it in turns to read we did it that way including the narrator. I found that that way definitely helped me to improve my understanding of the book and also have a little fun! Personally I think most subjects are my favourite at the moment because I am still getting to know my teachers.

Sometimes I think: I am so glad I didn’t go to a different school because these are the best days of my life.
