November 2016

In November 2016 school was filled with singers, musicians, dancers, and a variety of more unusual acts, preparing for their chance to shine at our biennial Talent Show in aid of Children in Need.

All pupils who took part in our Talent Show (16-18 November) and spent many months rehearsing independently should feel incredibly proud of themselves for having the courage and determination to get up and perform. This is a huge achievement, whether they walked away with a trophy or not, and they should be encouraged to continue developing their talent.

Talent Show 2016

The Autumn biennial Talent Show is interspersed with a whole school musical production on alternate years - recent productions include Footloose, Hairspray and The Wiz. We look forward to hearing what musical extravaganza will be on stage here in 2017-18.

I was so impressed by the dedication of our pupils to the Expressive Arts this term, both within the curriculum and extra curricular.  We have lots of opportunities for pupils in the Arts for the new year, so pupils can still get involved!

We have started to plan our first MADD (Music Art Drama and Dance) evening - we anticipate a vibrant, colourful, musical, loud and fun event! Look out for details next term.

In 2015 sixty Deer Park pupils from Years 7-10 took part in a mass movement dance performance at Wembley Stadium, where they performed on the pitch with Pixie Lott before a sold out Saracens v Harlequins match. We are running the dance project again, culminating in the performance at Wembley on Saturday 8 April 2017, at which it has just been announced that Louisa Johnson will be performing. Workshops will take place in the February half term.

In March we will be taking a group of singers to the national Voice in a Million, which takes place at Wembley Arena. More details in the new year.

Music and Drama are part of the Deer Park Expressive Arts faculty, whilst Art and Design disciplines are in the Design faculty. We have taken delivery of our Moongazing Hare and early in 2017 pupils studying Art will be creating our interpretation of history on a hare for the Cirencester March Hare Festival.
