Young Writers

Competition winners

Earlier this year, our English Faculty invited pupils now in (new) Year 9 to take part in the Rotary Young Writer 2022 competition, with the theme of ‘Environment’. Participants were asked to write a piece of prose of any sort, whether poem, journal or short story.

On Tuesday 19 July 2022 we were pleased to welcome Mark Wilton from the Rotary Club of Cirencester to Deer Park in order to present two (new) Year 9 pupils, Emily B and Evelyn B, with their winning Young Writer certificates and vouchers. Mark said 'The entries from Deer Park were of such high quality that we could not choose between the finalists and decided to award 2 overall winners.'

Congratulations Emily and Evelyn!

The whole land is clear and bare
Where will i go
Where will i sleep
All the humans want is meat...

The thinned out patches of yellow grass lay lifeless on the dry soil. Everything was dead...
