Face Coverings Update

Pupils will no longer be required to wear face coverings in school

On Monday 10 May 2021, the Prime Minister announced that in line with his road map out of lockdown from Monday 17 May 2021, pupils will need no longer to wear face coverings in school.

We will be following the guidance we have subsequently received from the government and confirm that from Monday 17 May pupils at Deer Park will no longer be expected to wear face coverings in classrooms or indoor areas. However, staff are expected to wear face covering in indoor communal areas, but can now remove them when teaching or supporting pupils in classrooms.

In making these changes, we also recognise that some pupils will prefer to continue with this practice and may choose, for their own wellbeing and the safety of others, to continue to wear face coverings in school and this is acceptable.

Our pupils have been remarkably resilient and have coped well with the adjustments we have had to make in response to the pandemic and we are all looking forward to the further easing of restrictions. However, we need to do so cautiously and everyone must remember the importance of good hand and respiratory hygiene and social distancing.’ Chiquita Henson, Headteacher.

A reminder that pupils, along with the rest of general public, are still required to wear face coverings on public transport and in shops etc.
