Striking the Right Chord

Monday 30 January 2012

Students from every year across the school came together on Wednesday 25th January to form part of a recital evening where they performed as a soloist in the annual ‘Deer Park Young Musician of the Year Competition’. Students were competing for the prestigious title of ‘Winner of Young Musician’, divided into 2 categories; Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

Some outstanding performances were heard throughout the evening on a variety instruments including piano, classical guitar, violin, and clarinet, to name but a few. Pieces performed ranged from the Baroque era in 1600s to the very modern, with some pieces written very recently.

After much deliberation the judges declared that the winner of the Key Stage 3 ‘Deer Park Young Musician of the Year’ was Leah Collingwood, for her brilliant flute performance. Runners up in this category were Tom Chisholm in Year 7, Henry Ezard in Year 8 and Lucy Stephenson in Year 9.

The winner of the Key Stage 4 ‘Deer Park Young Musician of the Year’ was Ella Brown, in Year 10, for a beautiful classical guitar performance. Runners up were Helen Brown, Holly Gimmler & Colm Peare.

Dan Cook, Music Co-ordinator, said of the event: ‘Overall it was a fabulous evening and I was really proud of the achievements of all our pupils.’
