School governors provide strategic leadership and accountability for the school. As the school is an Academy, the Governors are also directors of the company that owns the school. The Governors work closely with the Headteacher to agree the strategic direction of the school and make decisions about balancing resources.
The key functions of the Governing Body are to:
- set the aims and objectives for the school
- set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives
- set the targets for achieving those aims and objectives
- monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives
- be a source of challenge and support to the headteacher.
Following a rigorous assessment, the governing body of Cirencester Deer Park School achieved the prestigious award, Governor Mark, early in 2013. This is a nationally recognised quality mark and to achieve it, members of the school’s governing body used a comprehensive and challenging self-evaluation toolkit to reflect on the impact of their governance on the school and its development.
Most of the members of the Governing Body are either current or former parents of pupils of the school, giving them a strong insight into the school and a strong desire to engage in its continuing development. The following profiles are designed to introduce the governors and to show the range of experience they bring to the school.
