High Performing Specialist School

As a ‘high performing specialist school’ we are committed to raising achievement and improving our learners’ life chances. Our three subject specialisms,Technology, Arts and Applied Learning, are designed to complement each other and help us deliver a broad and balanced entitlement curriculum and our partnerships encourage creativity, innovation and support professional development. To ensure we remain ‘one school’ and retain a commitment to our core purpose, learning and teaching, we have achieved a synthesis within our strategic plan which is based around four key areas: Learning, Personal Growth and Development, Community and Environment. The ‘additionality’ of our specialisms has enabled us to increase the flexibility within our curriculum, personalise learning and create capacity. To retain our status as a ‘high performing specialist school’ we are working hard to ensure we will meet the criteria set by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) following our next Ofsted Inspection (anticipated 2009-10).

To become a ‘high performing specialist school’, schools inspected in 2008, were expected to meet the following the criteria:

  • An overall Grade 1 Ofsted marking with a minimum of 30% 5+ A*-C GCSE including English & Maths in the 2007 KS4 results or
  • An overall Grade 2 Ofsted marking with a Grade 1 in “Achievement and Standards” with a minimum of 30% 5+ A*-C GCSE including English & Maths in the 2007 KS4 results or
  • An overall Grade 2 Ofsted with a Grade 2 in Achievement and Standards with 65% or above 5+ A*-C GCSE including English & Maths in the 2007 KS4 results or
  • An overall Grade 2 marking with a Grade 2 in Achievement and Standards and in the top 20% CVA national ranking (KS2-KS4) and a minimum 35% 5+ A*-C GCSE inc English & Maths in the 2007 KS4 results.

These are revised annually. For more information follow this link: http://www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/specialistschools/guidance2008/?version=1
