Year 11 Geographers

17 October 2011

A group of twelve Year 11 Geographers spent Tuesday 11 October at the rather blustery (but dry) Oxwich Bay in South Wales. The trip was organised by Cirencester College for A2 Level Geographers and AS Level Environmental Scientists, and our students were invited to take part as to gain experience of Post-16 Geography.

We had a fantastic day and the girls really got into the sampling and data collection in the sand dunes, asking impressive questions about the ecosystem and developing a better understanding of plant succession and dune system development. They were also asking some very interesting and high level questions which was great to see, and they hopefully gained an insight into the workings of the subject beyond GCSE. The trip helped to cement their understanding of fieldwork making links with their current Controlled Assessment for GCSE Geography. A long day but a worthwhile visit to a fascinating environment.

“I had a really good time and enjoyed the experience. I am now considering taking Geography at A Level” Hannah Denton.
“I enjoyed the experience of A Level Geography it was interesting to learn new techniques
to find out more about the sand dune ecosystem” Jemma Boucher.
“The trip was very enjoyable and I also took in a lot of information about Geography.
It was a very interesting day and a brill day out!” Millie Goodinson.

Many thanks to all staff who helped organise and support this trip.
