Y9 Languages for Life

Languages in Focus: on Thursday 4th February 2010, Caroline Hiorns from ‘Routes into Languages' based at the University of the West of England, Bristol, visited Cirencester Deer Park School to talk to our Year 9 students about the importance of language learning for the future.

The Year 9s gathered in the Hall for the presentation which focused on how languages could give pupils the edge when looking for jobs, how employers sometimes pay more if you can speak a language to GCSE level and we watched some case study videos of people who work with languages. Afterwards, some Year 10 students volunteered to speak to the Year 9s about learning languages for GCSE, how the assessments work and gave them ideas about what to expect next year.

We all found it a really positive experience and the students came away with really good ideas about where Languages can take them in the future.
