Year 11 Mock Exam Results

Following two days of school closure owing to the snow and severe weather conditions, we held shared our Year 11 pupils’ Mock Exam Results with them on Friday 8 January as planned because their teachers were keen to ensure that they can focus on the areas identified for improvement as soon as possible.

This is the third year we have had a Mock Exam Results Day and it has become an important milestone in our pupils’ learning experience and school calendar. We joined all pupils in Year 11 in the main hall for a reflective assembly period 6, before each pupil had the opportunity to collect a personalised summary of his or her achievements in the recent practice exams in the same way in which many will receive their results this summer.

The atmosphere in the hall was initially subdued and, as Mr Clarke, our new Head of Key Stage 4, observed,”The mock exams offer a chance to measure progress and signpost the way to success. For many the penny had dropped - the serious business of exam results had fast become a reality and the nerves were beginning to show!” The pupils calmly moved through to the atrium where they received their grades. They conducted themselves responsibly and engaged in constructive discussions with their tutors, each other and representatives from Cirencester College about what they need to do over the remaining 5 months of their Year 11 courses in order to secure the best grades for themselves in each subject.

For many, their mock exam results showed the positive steps they had taken to revise, their resourcefulness and resilience, but for others the day highlighted the need for a little more application and attention to detail! While there may only be 76 actual school days left before our Year 11s take ‘study leave’, it is important that all in Year 11 appreciate that there is a need to work outside of school time to ensure the completion of coursework and that they are thoroughly prepared for their final exams in May/June.

Pupils and their parents will have an opportunity to meet with subject teachers at our Year 11 Parents’ Evening on 4th February 2010 to review progress.
