Chefs Gareth and Sean demonstrate their skills
Our pupils often have the opportunity to work alongside specialists.
Two Chefs came from Gloucestershire College to visit the Year 10 pupils doing GCSE Catering. Gareth Crwys-Williams, in charge of teaching students studying for chefs’ qualifications at Gloucestershire College, and Sean Naen, who runs the Renaissance Restaurant where students gain work experience, joined our Catering teacher, Louise Parker, for the third time to demonstrate their skills and prepare a range of dishes.
Before the pupils’ eyes, they quickly filleted fish to make a curry and prepare roast fish with cream and mustard sauce. They jointed and boned a chicken and made chicken Thai curry, chicken stirfry and chicken and sweetcorn chowder. They also made a pizza and chocolate mousse. There was plenty of action and food for the pupils to taste. In a question and answer session they talked to the pupils about careers in the food and hospitality industries. As ever, the Chefs were very entertaining: ‘Gareth and Sean had the pupils laughing from beginning to end. They passed round ingredients for them to handle and taste.'
‘The high attainment and outstanding achievement of all groups of pupils are matched by their development as thoughtful, confident and enterprising young people’ (Ofsted 2010).
