28th and 29th January 2010, at Alfrink College, Zoetermeer, Holland
MUNA stands for Model United Nations Alfrink, and is an annual simulation of the United Nations. The United Nations pupil conference at our Dutch partner school Alfrink College attracted over 350 delegates to the conference from schools and colleges across Europe. Our Year 10 pupils joined in the two day conference on a range of topical subjects, such as the crisis in Haiti, the situation in Darfur and other global issues.

The party from Deer Park included ten pupils and two members of staff. Pupils had established Dutch partners before the event and were able to stay with host families, which added to the quality of the experience. The conference was superbly hosted by Alfrink College, who provided all delegates with excellent facilities to undertake their work. Visiting speakers to the conference included Dan King, Consul and Chief American Services from the US Consulate General in Amsterdam, Andy McGinley from the US Embassy in The Hague, Michel Groenenstijn - representative of Bemore, an Africa support charity - and Jan Dik, an expert in emergency relief who has just returned from the Sudan in Africa providing medical advice and services. This was the fifth anniversary conference of MUNA at Alfrink College and the fourth year of attendance for Deer Park School. The conference has provided our pupils with a special experience that will stay with them for a long time. Find out more about MUNA... |
