(17 March 2010) Following on from the School Premises Development Plan, undertaken with the Local Authority and the bdp architecture partnership, our School is in the final stages of completing the Travel Plan which has looked closely at improving the safety and sustainability of the transport of pupils, parents, visitors and School work colleagues in their journeys to and from School. Consultation with a wide audience, including pupils, parents, staff, school colleagues and the Local Authority has taken place to formulate the Travel Plan. The questionnaire issued to pupils and staff in November 2009 provided key information in developing the Travel Plan. 866 returns were received from pupils in years 7 to 11, together with 70 staff responses. From the questionnaire response an Action Plan has been formulated that is based around four principle objectives.
A School Working Party has been set up to investigate and instigate the principal objectives together with associated issues that would improve the travel provision to and from school. Members of the working party include School Pupil Council members, teachers, SLT members, Community and Teacher Governors, pastoral managers from Key Stage 3 and 4 and colleagues associated with the site management. The detailed Action Plan produced in conjunction with Gloucestershire Highways provides the structure to take the Travel Plan proposals forward over a four year period. Areas for development include the potential of an improved pedestrian crossing on entry to the School, the development of cycle path markings on entrance to the school, increased cycle training provision and reviewing the signage of pedestrian and traffic flow on and off the site.
