In the summer of 2012 a group of intrepid explorers from years eight to eleven will be putting on their back packs and leaving their hair straighteners at home and taking part in an expedition of a lifetime to South America. The expedition, being organised by Cirencester Deer Park School and Outlook Expeditions gives young people the opportunity to find out more about the world, whilst at the same time developing essential skills and supporting local communities and environments. During the four week expedition the pupils will have the chance to experience many aspects of life in the South American countries of Argentina and Brazil. The pupils won't just spend four weeks on Copacabana beach though! Whilst there they will be working with local communities in some of the more disadvantaged areas of the cities and also support an environmental conservation project. Pupils will be getting together with the trip leaders, Miss Lillington and Miss Dovey, on Saturday 26th March to plan every stage of the journey for themselves, so more details will follow after this date. However the fun starts way before the summer of 2012... All pupils taking part must raise funds for the expedition! The pupils are working hard individually, whether it’s doing additional chores around the house, working extra hours in their part time job or clearing snow from the drives of neighbours. Pupils will also be running a series of events in school to help raise funds, including cake sales, a bush tucker teacher challenge, a sponsored cycle, Deerbay (an online jumble sale) and even a Brazil themed Non School Uniform Day! If you want to help out with the fundraising and design the tour t-shirt or take part in the sponsored cycle or offer your services in another way then get in touch with Miss Lillington or Miss Dovey as soon as possible.
