During February half term 43 pupils and 6 members of staff visited Aprica in Italy for a week of fun-filled skiing. We stayed at the admirable Saint Martin Hotel and our host Gino and his staff provided excellent service and high quality Italian food all week. On the slopes, pupils were split into groups of ability and skied a range of different courses, ranging from nursery slopes to the highest level of difficulty which were black slopes. The improvement made by the pupils in regard to their skiing was astonishing, with many picking up difficult skills such as parallel turning, parallel stopping and carving with ease. Special praise must go to Luke and Erin who were awarded the most improved skiers due to their outstanding performance throughout the week. This excellent development would not have taken place without the help of Aprica’s outstanding ski instructors who provided fun and challenging session throughout the week in combination with excellent technical instructions and feedback. Year 9 pupil Ryan, summing up the trip, said "The ski trip was lots of fun - all the teachers were a laugh - it was the best time ever." Erin in Year 10 said "The ski trip was really good. I'd been before but still learnt things and had a good time." In addition to the skiing, pupils were given the opportunity to take part in a range of activities during the evenings throughout the week. This included ice skating, a quiz night, a disco night, a presentation evening and a pizza night where pupils were given the opportunity to appreciate Italian culture. Lastly, a special thank you must go to all staff, especially Mr Bellamy, who organised an excellent trip! by Alex Cummings Related Links: |
