More inclement weather last week saw Deer Park School at its best in terms of pupils’ determination to get to School. Year 10 pupils can be justly proud of their efforts. A GCSE modular examination saw pupils travel in from afar and in convoy to get to their Science modular Physics examination. This spirit of determination was also echoed by teachers, exam officers and invigilators alike. We are very grateful to pupils, parents and colleagues’ determination to keep the school open and operational. This includes our ground staff, school kitchen assistants and bus companies transporting pupils where possible safely to and from school.
Cirencester Deer Park School has been invited by Alfrink College in Zoetermeer, Holland to take part in the 5th Anniversary Conference of the pupil United Nations Conference during the 27th and 30th January. Deer Park will be represented at the MUNA conference by Year 10 pupils. Conference delegates will attend from France, Germany, Italy and other Dutch schools and colleges. Deer Park will be joined by St Marys School, Cambridge as the UK representatives. This is the fourth year of attendance for Deer Park School. Pupils will have the opportunity to debate and formulate resolutions on world issues. Miss Lillington has helped prepare the pupils for the event and runs the debating club in school. Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils have played a major part in supporting the Haiti fund raising campaign with collections during tutor, break and lunchtime. A series of assemblies raising the issues confronting Haiti was undertaken by Miss Buck during the week with an impromptu collection at the end of assembly. Dom Brown and Verity Greenhalgh undertook a busking session in the hall on Key Stage 4 lunch on Friday for the Haiti appeal which was very well supported by pupils and staff. YOU can help the people of Haiti by making a donation. The School Finance Office has set up a special account for the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Haiti Earthquake Appeal, so pupils can make a donation at our Finance Office or support an appeal organised within the school. You can donate over the counter at local post offices or banks. Find out more about the appeal on www.dec.org.uk or visit the BBC news site.
