(9th February 2010) As a part of our rigorous and on-going process of self evaluation we have recently surveyed pupils and staff to gauge current perceptions of the school and help us identify areas for improvement. The data from these questionnaires complements the responses from our Parent Questionnaires completed in 2009.
Pupils and staff are proud to be members of our Deer Park community and enjoy coming to school. They recognise and support the measures we have put in place to meet the five outcomes of ‘Every Child Matters’, and parents, in particular, feel well informed and comfortable in approaching the school with a concern.
Pupils, parents and staff agree that we offer a good range of subjects in a very safe environment and that we provide a broad range of extra-curricular and enrichment activities. Parents consistently express a very high level of satisfaction with their childrens’ experiences at Deer Park and feel their children are expected to work hard and are making progress.
The quality of teaching is regarded as being good and pupils, across all year groups, indicate that they feel adults within the school care about them.
However, the responses to our questionnaires have also highlighted that we could do more to promote healthier lifestyles and that we should aim to take more account of parent and pupil suggestions. Furthermore, with regard to the support we provide for our pupils’ learning, we are reviewing homework and mentoring to ensure all pupils have the right amount of work to do at home and that they are able to identify areas for improvement and act upon them independently. We have incorporated these into our Strategic Plan.
In October 2010, we will be seeking further feedback on the progress we have made and plan to use a more comprehensive questionnaire with parents, pupils and staff.
Thank you for you co-operation and support.
