‘Outstanding’, Ofsted

On Wednesday 12 May and 13 May 2010, Headteacher, Chiquita Henson, staff and pupils welcomed a team of six Ofsted Inspectors to Deer Park exactly three years and one week since the school’s last inspection. The school received notification of their visit on Monday 11 May and shared their own self-evaluation with team.

Over the two days the team observed 31 lessons, met with staff and talked to pupils about their experience of the school. They scrutinised pupils’ work, looked at the school’s documentation and wandered the site over breaks and lunchtimes. Inspectors commended the behaviour of pupils as exemplary and commented positively on the range of opportunities they have at Deer Park.

From the initial feedback, the school understood the team of inspectors left with a very favourable impression of the school and were delighted to receive the inspection report which acknowledges, ‘Cirencester Deer Park School is an outstanding school.

Headteacher, Chiquita Henson said, ‘We are all absolutely thrilled with the outcome and with the tone of the report which recognises our commitment to building our pupils’ learning power and offering more than a visible curriculum. The outstanding judgements reflect the commitment of our staff and the emphasis we place on preparing our pupils for life long learning. I am immensely proud of our school and our pupils’ achievements and grateful to staff for their hard work’.

Philip Beckerlegge, Chair of Governors, congratulated staff; ‘The outcome is a tribute to the enormous amount of work the school has undertaken and confirms what the governing body has always maintained, that Deer Park is a very special place indeed.’

In his letter to pupils, Peter Limm, the lead inspector, praised the pupils. He told them, ‘You demonstrate what mature and responsible attitudes you have, not just to learning, but also to each other and members of staff. You work hard and make an excellent contribution to the life of the school. You are to be congratulated on your exemplary behaviour. You have shown excellent personal moral values and great concern for your community and that of the wider world.’
