EQUAL RIGHTS, EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES?
|
A group of Year 10 and 11 pupils will be leaving Deer Park on Tuesday 7 February to participate in an international Model United Nations event at Alfrink College in The Netherlands. On Wednesday they will be in the Hague visiting the Department of Defence and the Department of Education (OCW), where pupils will receive a presentation by representatives of the Dutch government about how the Netherlands is trying to achieve equal rights and equal opportunities at home and abroad. |

Following this pupils will participate in Model United Nations Alfrink (MUNA), an annual simulation of the United Nations. For three days, students from several countries in Europe will gather at Alfrink College in Zoetermeer to debate global issues. During the conference students will be the delegates of the United Nations - Cirencester Deer Park pupils are representing delegates from Bangladesh, Mexico, Columbia and Georgia.
Rachel is looking forward to the experience. “I believe that debating is a professional and formal way of finding resolutions for global and small scale issues, plus it helps develop ideas and prospects that will benefit society as a whole. Debating is, to me, the best way of making sure that everyone’s opinion is heard, and every possible idea is put forward. I find debating about topics interesting and thought provoking, and I believe that debating can evoke answers to even the most challenging tasks.”
The pupils have been researching their countries and have prepared resolutions that they will put forward to other participants in their group. We are all looking forward to the event and will be able to report back after half term.
