(January 2010) It was time to dust off running shoes and squeeze into some Lycra as the Maths Faculty turned sporty last week. This year’s Maths in Focus Week concentrated on Sport.
Yes, Maths exercises more than just your brain!
Pupils and staff had the opportunity to put their Maths skills and sporting talent together to compete to win prizes on our sport related Maths puzzles. There were also be sport themed Maths lessons for all year groups during the week; including A Question of Mathematical Sport.
How is Maths used in sport?
It could be as as simple as keeping the score. It can also be used to find league champions. It can be used to record distance or time. It is also has more complicated applications, for example the Duckworth-Lewis method in cricket.
Tutor Group Competition - Daily Sports Puzzle
Solve the sport related puzzles during tutor time to win prizes.
• A daily prize for the best tutor group
• A prize for the best overall tutor group throughout the whole week
