Leavers' Ball Report

Tuesday 5 July 2011

It was all the fun of the fair on Friday 1 July as Cirencester Deer Park School bid farewell to Year 11 in true style at the annual Leavers’ Ball. This year’s Circus theme saw the school transformed into a ‘Big Top’, complete with stilt walkers, acrobats, clowns and flying elephants.

Pupils reached new heights in their quest for innovative and imaginative ways of arriving to the spectacle – quite literally for two lucky revellers who arrived by helicopter! Onlookers were treated to the usual glittering array of Ferraris, Aston Martins and Limousines, but this year they were accompanied by more original ideas, including a pantomime horse-drawn chariot, tractors, tandems and even ostrich riders. The crazy cavalcade kept everybody on the tips of their toes and the edge of their seats as the pupils surpassed one another with extra glitz and glamour.

“It was amazing” said parent Michelle Burgess, “the school has really offered them the red carpet treatment – a fantastic event!”

The fun continued long into the evening as the partygoers said their last goodbyes and let their hair down after the intensive exam period. Ringmaster for the evening was Head of Key Stage 4, David Clarke, who said “The pupils deserve to celebrate. They have worked extremely hard in the build up to their exams and are on course for some of the best results the school has ever seen”.

Six months in the making, the evening went without a hitch and the Event Co-ordinator, Karen Grinnell, agreed it was the best Ball yet, adding “We have worked tirelessly over the past months to see this come together, but it was a team effort and thanks must go to the Year 11 Ball Committee, along with all the staff who helped to make it such a success. We should also extend our thanks to Miles Guerrini of performers4events for providing the excellent stilt walkers, Jeannette Cranstone of Giant Card & Balloon Co and Anesta & Matt for their fabulous performances”.

Pupil Luke Thrussell summed up everybody’s thoughts: “It’s nights like this that remind you what a fantastic place Deer Park is. I am going to miss it so much!”

The 2011 Leavers are aiming to surpass the outstanding results achieved by last year’s students and receive their results from 09:30am on Thursday 25th August.
