As part of our role as a Leading Edge School we are currently busy developing a number of projects which aim to promote good learning across the partnership.
In February, Connie Hill, Joe Edwards, Emma Spring, Sarah Cuthbert, Edward Glover and Naomi Riordan all spent a day at Kingshill School building their skills as pupil mentors or Learning Buddies. It was a fantastic day and the students found out a lot about identifying good learning skills in the classroom and providing feedback to their peers when they need support. The Learning Buddies will shortly commence a programme of work with some Year 8 pupils and allow them to reflect on their learning and building the 4 R’s skills of Resourcefulness, Resilience, Reciprocity and Reflectiveness into their lessons.
Another aspect of the Leading Edge work has been looking at revision. With exams fast approaching for Year 11 and many Year 10 students, a lot of work has been carried in out to identify what students want from revision materials. The schools within the partnership are currently working together to create effective paper and electronic resources which pupils will be able to use in order to perform to the best of their ability in the exams. Revision is always a daunting process but with the feedback provided we hope we have created some materials which all pupils find useful.
In June the school will also be representing the Partnership at the Achievement Show, which is a national event held at the Emirates Stadium, London. The show aims to share the good practice taking part nationally in education and this year we will be discussing our work with the Learning Buddies and Revision Website and hopefully gaining many other new ideas to bring back to Deer Park School and the other schools in the Partnership.
