Friday 24 June 2011
Unfortunately, the school will be closed to pupils on Thursday 30 June owing to industrial action by members of the teachers’ professional associations, the NUT and ATL. Following consultation, we understand that over 50% of teachers at Deer Park are intending to take part in this national day of action.
We carefully considered a number of options, but owing to the distribution of lessons across the day and different combinations of pupils it will not be possible to run continuous timetables for specific year groups. However, we would encourage our pupils to log onto iDeer, the schools’ learning platform, on Thursday 30 June, where they will be able to find and retrieve generic independent learning tasks. Teachers, not taking action, will be in school and will ensure specific activities for the pupils in the classes they would normally be teaching on this day are available for them to complete at home.
The Powells’ Learning Centre, our School Library, and our ICT classrooms will be open to pupils in our new Year 10 and 11 who wish to use our resources, prepare for controlled assessments, complete coursework or work on current homework projects. These areas will be supervised.
Year 10 and 11 pupils intending to come into school for the day, or part of the day, will be expected to wear school uniform and to sign in on arrival and out when they leave, at reception.
We have advised the Local Authority and Bus Companies. Buses which serve Deer Park only will not operate. Buses which serve other local schools in addition to Deer Park may be operating. Please check with the operator to confirm.
To minimise disruption to learning next week we have taken the decision to postpone Sports Day, scheduled for Wednesday 29 June. This event has now been rescheduled for Thursday 21 July.
The school will be open as normal on Friday 1 July when we will be looking forward to welcoming back the ‘Class of 2011’ for their Leaver’s Ball in the evening.
