Monday 18 July 2011
‘A week of brilliantness’, ‘An epic week’, ‘Fantastic experience’, ‘Fun, fun, fun’ are some of the quotes from pupils who took part in the Year 7 Team Building Activity.
The activities were selected to give pupils the opportunity to develop team building and communication skills as well as provide a personal challenge. Each tutor group experienced a new challenge each day, including an aerial challenge at Cotswold Country Park, watersports activities at South Cerney Outdoor Education Centre, survival skills with Mr Perkins and reflecting on local history from the Victorian age through to the present day at the Steam Museum.
On Tuesday all pupils took part in an inter-tutor group rounders tournament which certainly brought the competitive spirit out in the pupils (and the tutors!). The tournament was eventually won by 7Je and Mr Johnson (despite them being the smallest group). Brandon Court 7De ‘I can’t remember Monday it just keeps getting better and better!’, this sentiment reflects the views of pupils as they returned to school at the end of each day.
Each group collaborated well together and the staff both from Cirencester Deer Park School and from the outside organisations were impressed with the support and encouragement that they gave each other, especially when individuals needed help to complete a task.
By the end of the week, it was clear that the pupils found the aerial challenge (run by Head 4 Heights) the best challenge to have overcome. Isaac King 7Li said ‘at Head 4 Heights I did things I never thought I could’. Zoe Dunston 7De reported ‘It’s a bit stupid to realise now that I’m scared of heights, but it was the best thing I’ve ever done’.
By Friday the pupils and staff were tired, but had loved every minute of the week. Sam Townsend 7Ni summed up the week, ‘It has been fun and I have learnt new things’. Miss Davies tutor of 7Li ‘Absolutely fantastic experience for both pupils and staff ….. except my sunburn!’
