English Faculty in Focus

29 November 2010

It’s been a busy term for the English Faculty. Three Year 11 classes have sat their English Language exams six months early and we anxiously await their results in January. Revision is still running at full speed for all Year 11 pupils for Literature. We have a number of things that pupils can do to help themselves. Pupils can come along on a Thursday afternoon, have a cup of tea and a biscuit and talk about their favourite characters in the texts they have studied. There are a number of past papers available in the office for pupils to come and collect and have a go at. Also we are delighted to welcome back some former pupils into Year 11 assemblies to talk about studying English at A Level and how to revise for GCSE.

There are still some places available for our theatre trip to see the GCSE set text ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ on the 9th March. It’s a bargain at £15 a ticket. Please collect letters from the Faculty Office.

In Key Stage 3 pupils have had the superb opportunity to work with a published poet and artist, Duncan Forbes. They experimented with writing their own poems about themselves based on their favourite things and their fears. It was a pleasure to see the pupils so animated about their work and enthusing about poetry.

Year 7 have received their free books as part of the annual Booked Up campaign to encourage all pupils to enjoy reading.

Our Film Club continues to run during KS3 lunchtimes. FILMCLUB gives pupils and teachers the chance to explore the world of film through after school film clubs, with free weekly screenings in E2 on Monday week 1 period 4 (KS3 lunchtime) and Friday week 2 period 4. We have watched some classics such as E.T. since we started up again in September. All our welcome to enjoy the films and discuss the films once we have watched them!

There’s lots to do in English this term - get involved!
