On Tuesday 13 July, Emma Rose, Art Co-ordinator, and her team of pupil curators, hosted a Private View at Cirencester Deer Park School. The Art Exhibition situated in the heart of the school was an opportunity for pupils, their parents and members of our local community to see the very high standard of work produced by pupils in Year 11 as part of their GCSE and BTEC courses in Art and Design and Technology.
During the school’s annual Enrichment Week, Emma Rose and her team of volunteer pupils transformed the Art Department and Atrium into stunning gallery spaces with all courses offered by the Faculty of Design represented. On display was a diverse collection of creative work ranging from a giant ceramic teapot and a coffee table to cutlery inspired lighting and a sculpture of mummified lost toys. These reflected the talents of individual pupils.

Emma Rose was pleased to see it all come together: ‘We were careful to ensure each candidate had a least one piece in the exhibition’, and she maximised the opportunity: ‘Classes have really enjoyed seeing the work and pupils in our Year 9 groups were full of questions about the subjects we offer and began thinking about their options. We are really pleased with the positive response and are already thinking about next year and how we can improve and develop the display of our pupils’ work.’
Headteacher, Chiquita Henson, congratulated the pupils on their achievements: ‘The team worked very hard to put the exhibition together and it has been an invaluable experience for them. As talented artists, they have been able not only exhibit their work but also to understand what it takes to move their work from the studio to the gallery. It is an excellent example of applied learning in the Arts.’
The Private View on Tuesday was a great success. Paul Logan, the School’s Improvement Partner dropped in. He reflected, ‘I thought the exhibition was excellent - great variety in the work, and very well displayed! Many thanks for the invite.’ He reflected, ‘I thought the exhibition was excellent - great variety in the work, and very well displayed! Many thanks for the invite.’
