Industrial Action 30 June

Unfortunately, the school will be closed to pupils on Thursday 30 June owing to industrial action by members of the teachers’ professional associations, the NUT and ATL. Following consultation, we understand that over 50% of teachers at Deer Park are intending to take part in this national day of action.

Year 8 Anti Slavery

On Wednesday 6th April over two hundred Year 8 pupils at Cirencester Deer Park School became anti-slavery campaigners in a climax of cross curricular work in ICT, History, Religious Philosophy and Global Citizenship. Each class was given a different challenge; some became web and graphic designers, others became radio and TV broadcasters and others worked together to produce a memorial.

Working with Specialists

Our pupils often have the opportunity to work alongside specialists. In November two chefs came from Gloucestershire College to visit the Year 10 pupils doing GCSE Catering. Gareth Crwys-Williams and Sean Naen joined our Catering teacher, Louise Parker, for the third time to demonstrate their skills and prepare a range of dishes.

Bike Week

Team Green Britain Bike Week, the UK’s biggest mass participation cycling event, takes place 18-26 June; last year almost half a million people participated at events across the country. The aim is to get more people cycling, more often – from families, schools and companies, to seasoned cyclists and those who have never cycled before.

Primary Challenge 2011

On Friday 10 June we held this year’s Primary Challenge. This annual event welcomed over 50 new ‘Year 7s to-be’ for an action-packed day of learning activities and events. The theme for the day was The Olympics.

Year 6 Induction Days

As you are aware from your initial allocation letter, our Induction Days this year will be on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 July 2011. Your child will be invited to spend two days with us, to meet their classmates and new tutor. They will also experience a selection of lessons and a tour of the school. At 7.00pm on Thursday 14 July they are invited back, with you, to our Induction Evening.

The Big Tidy Up

On Thursday 9 June a group of our (new) Year 11s from the Pupil Council, with support across the year group, organised a massive clean up of the Abbey Grounds in Cirencester as part of the national anti-litter campaign The Big Tidy Up.

End of Term - May 2011

This last term must have been one of the shortest school terms ever with a late Easter and numerous bank holidays. The GCSE exams also seem to come earlier each year and our Year 11s have already completed a significant number of their exams.

Year 8 YEP!

The YEP! Project (Young Energy People) was launched in October 2010 and involves a conscientious team of nine Year 8 pupils at Cirencester Deer Park School: Wesley Caine, Lucy Stephenson, Maddie Kitchen, Eden Holdford, Charlotte Ellis, Abi Walsh, Katie Foye, Cameron Harper and Kelsey Beames.
