Enrichment Week - Community Theatre Project

This year, the Drama Department ran a very successful community theatre group during the school’s annual Enrichment Week. Pupils in Years 9 and 10 had the opportunity to experience what life and the expectations are like when working at a professional level creating theatre for the local community. The week stared with a completely blank canvas, with the students from Deer Park interviewing pupils from Cirencester and Powell’s primary schools to see what the potential audience were interested in.

This was followed by working with a real professional theatre company ‘La Navet Bete’, (who will be playing at the Edinburgh Festival and who are currently on a tour of Mexico) to start devising and staging work for the primary audience using the material they discovered in the opening session.

Enrichment Week - Art Exhibition

For the second year running an outstanding exhibition of Year 11 Art and Design work was held at Cirencester Deer Park School. The Art Department was transformed into a gallery space with all courses offered by the Faculty of Design represented.

The transformation took place during our annual Enrichment Week. The Art Department and Design Atrium were once again changed into a colourful gallery space full of a diverse variety of inspirational work. Work put on display was produced in both Art and Design for the BTEC and GCSE courses offered at Cirencester Deer Park School.

Leavers' Ball Report

It was all the fun of the fair on Friday 1 July as Cirencester Deer Park School bid farewell to Year 11 in true style at the annual Leavers’ Ball. This year’s Circus theme saw the school transformed into a ‘Big Top’, complete with stilt walkers, acrobats, clowns and flying elephants.

Expressive Arts Summer Showcase

On Monday 27 June, the main hall at Deer Park reverberated to a veritable medley of choral, percussion, and ensemble pieces performed by pupils in our Expressive Arts Summer Showcase. Headteacher Chiquita Henson reflected, ‘The evening was rich and varied with performances from individuals and groups of pupils. I was impressed by the range and quality of the programme, our pupils’ evident enjoyment in making music and the confidence they exude.’

Key Stage 3 Celebration of Achievement

On Tuesday 28 June Year 9 pupils and their parents filled the main hall at Cirencester Deer Park School for our Key Stage 3 Celebration of Achievement. As Headteacher, Chiquita Henson, welcomed them and handed over to Head of Key Stage 3, Caroline Skerten, who co-ordinated the awards’ evening there was a strong feeling of anticipation. Incredibly over 90% of pupils in the year group were nominated for awards for their effort, improvement and achievement and, of these, more than 50% received a certificate. “It was lovely to be able to celebrate the achievements of the year group and to reflect on the potential they have as the start their GCSE studies.

Friday 1 July 2011 - today is the Deer Park Request Show on Corinium Radio Cirencester (87.7FM) 13:30-14:30 - they are playing songs requested by pupils from CDPS.

South American Expedition

In the summer of 2012, a group of pupils from Cirencester Deer Park School have been given a chance to head off to Brazil and Argentina for an expedition of a lifetime.
