Another week of inclement weather has seen Deer Park School at its best in terms of pupils’ determination to get to School. Year 10 pupils can be justly proud of their efforts. A GCSE modular examination saw pupils travel in from afar and in convoy to get to their Science modular Physics examination. This spirit of determination was also echoed by teachers, exam officers and invigilators alike. We are very grateful to pupils, parents and colleagues’ determination to keep the school open and operational. This includes our ground staff, school kitchen assistants and bus companies transporting pupils where possible safely to and from school.
Year 8 were visited on 21st January by the Time Lord, Dave Lord to be precise, a time traveller from seventeenth century England. He brought a new dimension to the history classroom when he introduced pupils to the bloodiest turmoil this country has ever witnessed – the English Civil War.
Teacher Taster Day
On Thursday 28th January our Key Stage 4 Curriculum Evening takes place. During the evening there will be a presentation on the options process and the chance to talk to subject teachers about the courses they are offering, as well as representatives from Cirencester College and the Connexions service. Over the following two weeks there will be presentations in lessons and taster sessions for subjects not taught in Key Stage 3.
Now that the weather has returned to 'normal', all pupils should be wearing the school uniform correctly. This applies particularly to footwear.
Correct uniform is important to establishing the right atmosphere for learning and we want all pupils to take pride in their appearance. We are committed to maintaining a uniform that is smart, simple, practical and affordable.
If there is any doubt about what's allowed, have a look at our uniform checklist.
(January 2010) It was time to dust off running shoes and squeeze into some Lycra as the Maths Faculty turned sporty last week. This year’s Maths in Focus Week was Sport. Yes, Maths exercises more than just your brain.
Phew! It looks as though the worst of the weather is over for now. During difficult road conditions, bus journey times may be extended, so if the bus isn’t at your stop at the normal time, please give it time before assuming it isn’t coming at all.
Have fun out & about in the snow but stay safe and warm.
Following two days of school closure owing to the snow and severe weather conditions, we shared our Year 11 pupils’ Mock Exam Results with them on Friday 8 January as planned because their teachers were keen to ensure that they can focus on the areas identified for improvement as soon as possible.
