Members of the audience at Cirencester Deer Park School, over three nights from Wednesday 16 November, consistently congratulated pupils and staff on their absolutely tremendous production of ‘The Wiz’, a colourful retelling of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ with lively foot tapping soul rhythms!
On Thursday 10 November 2011 former pupils from our ‘Class of 2011’ and their parents filled the Main Hall at Cirencester Deer Park School for our Key Stage 4 Celebration of Achievement. We were delighted to welcome them back and share in their success.
On Thursday 20 October 34 Year 11 pupils and five members of staff left Cirencester Deer Park School to travel to Germany. The cross-curricular visit over the half term break enabled GCSE candidates to practise their German speaking skills and complement their study of Hitler’s Germany.
Pupils and staff joined people across the country in two minutes silence this morning to mark Remembrance Day. A small group of pupils accompanied by Assistant Head, Miss Skerten, performed an Act of Remembrance at the front of the school at 11:00, laying a wreath and lowering a flag whilst the Last Post was played. Many other pupils were able to observe the Act from their classrooms.
This week pupils from Deer Park School began their training for BBC News School Report with the help of a journalist from the BBC. BBC News School Report has been running annually since 2006 and gives students between the ages of 11 and 16 from across the country the opportunity to take part in different forms of journalism. Over half of secondary schools in the UK are involved this year, from Glaitness School on the Orkney Islands to Cape Cornwall School at the south westerly point of Cornwall - there are thousands of pupils taking part.
Cirencester Deer Park School and Cirencester Kingshill School are working collaboratively to help improve the future opportunities available to our pupils. We have organised a CAREERS CONVENTION for all of our Year 9 to Year 11 pupils. The event will be held at Cirencester Deer Park School on Tuesday 18 October 6-8pm and we hope Year 9 to Year 11 pupils and parents will be able to attend. We have over 20 organisations attending this year’s Convention, ranging from companies to colleges to universities, and the wealth of information that will be available will apply to all year groups.
As a part of our new Comenius project a group of Cirencester Deer Park School students, along with students from France and Sweden, travelled to Zoetermeer, in Holland, to be part of a two year collaborative European arts project.
A group of twelve Year 11 Geographers spent Tuesday 11 October at the rather blustery (but dry) Oxwich Bay in South Wales. The trip was organised by Cirencester College for A2 Level Geographers and AS Level Environmental Scientists, and our students were invited to take part as to gain experience of Post-16 Geography
On the evening of Friday 14 October Cirencester Deer Park School will be holding a promises auction in aid of the South American Expedition 2012. It promises to be a fun filled evening with Phillip Allwood from local auctioneers Moore Allen leading the way! We have a range of amazing promises available from family days out, beauty treatments, an Irish Band for an evening and tickets to big sporting events! Ticket details to be announced shortly along with a full list of lots!
